Entering a Split Personality — Chapter 24

Xiao He hadn’t been looking for long when more gunfire rang out around him.

The night was dark and empty. There were no passers-by, so firing a gun in the middle of the street didn’t actually cause any commotion.

Xiao He knew that this world wasn’t real, but he’d seriously suffered enough deaths that were even more terrifying than in real life.

If he could avoid dying then he’d do so, not to mention he had a baby in his arms!

He turned, wanting to rush upstairs. Before he left, he didn’t forget to pull on the woman beside him. “Come with me!”

When he spoke, he looked up and saw her, and was abruptly taken aback.

Without a doubt, Fan Shen’s looks took after his mother.

He had never seen such a beautiful woman in his life. Any words used to describe her looks would seem cheap and inadequate.

Ayr was an elf, gorgeous and elegant, but a real man.

The woman in front of him knitted her brows, her eyes sorrowful, but though her complexion was a little unusually pale, it didn’t hurt her exquisite looks.

Xiao He knew he was probably gay, but at this moment, looking at her, he couldn’t help his heart pounding fiercely.

She was really too good-looking. Regardless of whether it was a man or a woman, if they could move their gaze away from her, they simply weren’t human.

While Xiao He was still startled, this beautiful woman seized the opportunity to throw off his hand and run forward, dragging her long dress behind her.

Xiao He abruptly came back to himself, but just as he was about to pull her back, a gunshot suddenly rang out, and a bullet hit her precisely right in the chest.

Blood quickly gushed out, and her thin cotton dress was soon dyed red. She still maintained her position of running forward, but she was frozen eternally at that moment.

Like a lovely butterfly breaking its wings, like a delicate flower instantly withering, and most of all like an angel who had lost her way, falling into hell.

Poignant and cruel.

But she didn’t stop. Clutching her chest, she moved onward, trailing blood, and at last, she resolutely disappeared into the night, as if leaping into the black water of a lake.

Xiao He looked after her helplessly, but he was powerless to stop her.

He couldn’t let her down. He had to take him away!

He looked down at the little Fan Shen in his arms, gritted his teeth, and started running forward without looking back.

He had to pack his things and leave this place. No matter what those people were doing, he couldn’t let them harm Fan Shen!

That woman helped them delay for time, and Xiao He reacted quickly, so they managed to escape in the end.

But this wasn’t the end, but only the beginning.

Xiao He didn’t dare to stay here for long. He was sure that those people wouldn’t leave the matter at that. They’d definitely conduct a wide-ranging search of the surroundings, so it wasn’t safe here. Instead of waiting to be caught, he'd better to hurry and find a place to hide!

The only thing was...he really had no money at hand!

Xiao He looked at the silver-haired elf on the screen, gritted his teeth, and made a decision.

He’d change the drawing, deliver the goods, get the money and then think about it later!

This wasn’t difficult for him, just a bit regretful.

For now, he blurred Ayr’s features and weakened a few details to make his appearance a little more ordinary, and then he could do the final shading.

Little Fan Shen was very well-behaved, and had been sleeping quietly all along.

For the sake of money, Xiao He put out a burst of speed, and delivered the drawing perfectly after two hours.

The person on the other side was also a character who actually hadn’t gone to sleep yet at three o’clock in the morning. When they saw Xiao He’s drawing, they immediately sent him a message on QQ.

The third eldest has integrity: "Bro! You must be an old hand with a new username!"

Xiao He sent him a smiley face, not answering him but not denying it either. "If you’re satisfied, can you pay the bill? I need the money."

The third eldest has integrity: "No problem, wait a minute."

After a while, Xiao He got a transfer notification. He looked at the amount, and it was 200 yuan more than he had asked.

On QQ, the guy sent him another message. “With your level, I can’t take too much advantage of you. Let’s keep in touch in the future!”

Xiao He thought about it for a bit but didn’t refuse. He just replied, “Alright, if you have an order then just leave a message.”

Once he had money, it was easier to go on the road. That same night, Xiao He booked a train ticket, and left the landlady an IOU while he was at it. (He really would pay her back). Then he packed up his only belongings and left in a rush, carrying the baby.

When he got on the train and settled in, the little guy in his arms opened his eyes.

Xiao He looked down at him, and his heart instantly melted into a puddle.

So cute, so well-behaved, so beautiful!

Little Fan Shen had fair skin and delicate features. When he opened his eyes, those blue eyes were as pure as the clear sky after it rained. Limpid and bright, they cheered him up just from looking at them.

Xiao He had never thought that he’d have a little kid, but right now, only warmth bubbled up in his heart, and he didn’t reject the idea at all.

The journey didn’t take long. Three hours later, Xiao He reached his destination.

He hadn’t chosen a secluded little village, but went straight to the capital instead.

With their current situation, the more remote the place they escaped to, the more dangerous it was, while hiding in the large, bustling capital would be a lot safer in comparison.

He still had four hundred yuan left. Finding a place to rent was a problem, so he could only find a cheap hotel to settle down in.

During all of this trouble, little Fan Shen stayed well-behaved. He didn’t cry when he woke up, and as soon as he ate he fell asleep again.

Fortunately for Xiao He, the woman had left behind a simple package with a few sets of small clothes, milk powder, porridge and diapers inside.

There wasn’t much, but managing for the next few days definitely wasn’t a problem.

Xiao He settled in, connected his drawing pad to the hotel’s computer, and started working.

Without money, they’d starve to death. Making a living was the matter of chief importance!

He logged into QQ and happened to see a message that ‘The third eldest has integrity’ had left.

"Bro, are you free? I have a rush order for a boy from ancient times with long, straight black hair."

What a stroke of luck, someone came along just when he wanted.

Without hesitation, Xiao He quickly replied, "No problem, tell me the details of the request."

The two of them chatted for about half an hour. Xiao He had a general idea of what to do, so he rolled up his sleeves and got busy.

If he got a few more of these rush orders, he’d have a stable living for now.

And fortunately enough, Xiao He had a lot of experience from before, and had produced quite a few illustrations, but in this world, none of those works existed yet.

So he only needed to gather together his past experiences according to the request, and he could quickly create something.

Another day and night passed. Looking at the money in his hands, Xiao He felt a little lightheaded.

He hadn’t gone all out like this for a long time, okay!

But...it still felt pretty good!

He busied himself until four o’clock in the afternoon, when little Fan Shen woke up. Xiao He rushed over to him and gazed at him earnestly.

The little guy was very small. Xiao He couldn’t really tell apart the stages and sizes of an infant, but from his appearance, he was probably only six or seven months old. He ate and slept quietly, so cute it made his heart swell.

When he thought of the baby's dead mother, Xiao He felt a little sad, but he soon pulled himself together.

This was an opportunity!

Fan Shen was so small. If he could raise him until adulthood, could he change his character?

He could give him enough love and a stable life, and help him reestablish his values. If he slowly grew up this way, Fan Shen would definitely have a healthy body and mind!

Xiao He had a fine plan. He even went to find Qin Su just to discuss it.

But Qin Su adjusted his glasses and gave him a serious blow. “This is indeed an opportunity, but you have to consider this carefully. A single-parent household isn’t beneficial for a child’s emotional growth.”
