Runaway Guide Extra 4 — The Daily Life of a Family of Four

Thanks again to three darlings!

***

His first time being pregnant, Xi Wei hadn’t had many symptoms. If he hadn’t suddenly fainted and been taken to the hospital in his third month of pregnancy, it might’ve taken him a long time to find out that there was a little fellow in his belly.

However, after getting pregnant for the second time, Xi Wei was vomiting severely after only a month. Every morning after getting up, he had to run to the bathroom to throw up for a while. He almost threw up all of the bile in his stomach. Klaire felt very distressed hearing him retching, but there was nothing he could do. The doctor said this kind of behavior was normal during pregnancy, and it would be better after it stabilized in a while.

Xi Wei’s appetite wasn’t good because of his severe morning sickness, and he didn’t eat much every day. He should’ve rounded out after getting pregnant, but this time, Xi Wei got thinner instead. Klaire worried that his body wouldn’t be able to take it, and could only go into the kitchen to make different kinds of supplements for him every day. If he couldn’t eat it, Klaire would go to the hospital to get nutrient fluid to give him.

Three months passed like this, and Xi Wei’s morning sickness finally eased a little. He could eat something now, but he still didn’t have much energy. He was very sleepy, and sometimes, he could fall asleep just lying on the couch reading. Every time, Klaire carefully carried him back to the bedroom, tucked him in attentively, and for fear that he’d catch cold, told Bluestar to set the temperature of the room.

Six months into his pregnancy, Xi Wei’s legs suddenly swelled up. Every night, Klaire soaked his feet in hot water.

Xi Wei looked at the man kneeling in front of him, helping him wash his feet, and fell into a complicated mood. They were both men, but after he got pregnant this time, Klaire had to take care of him like this. Xi Wei actually felt pretty bad for troubling him.

However, Klaire being willing to personally wash his feet made Xi Wei, who had a hard time getting about, feel a little moved.

His stomach was already sticking out, and Xi Wei had no way to bend down. He could only reach out and gently stroke Klaire’s hair, saying, “Thanks for the trouble.”

He managed military affairs at the Morningstar Corps in the daytime, and by the time he came back home at night, he was already very tired. When he was taking care of his omega, though, he was still this patient and meticulous. If he didn’t love Xi Wei deeply, how could he do something like this?

Noticing Xi Wei’s movements, Klaire looked up and met his jet-black eyes. He couldn’t help but smile slightly, and said softly, “You’re still being polite with me? If it wasn’t for me not using contraceptive measures, you wouldn’t have to suffer like this.”

Every time he saw Xi Wei exhausted with a big belly, Klaire couldn’t help but blame himself at heart. Actually, he hadn’t been particularly eager to have more children. A naughty, troublemaking guy like Dylan was enough for the both of them…

Klaire thought of this and said, “This is our last child, okay? We won’t have any more after this, and you won’t have to be this tired.”

Faced with his gentle gaze, Xi Wei felt a little moved inside. He said frankly, “Actually, it’s not that much trouble. The first few months the morning sickness was a little severe, but recently it’s much better.”

Klaire looked at his swollen legs and felt distressed. He used a hot towel to carefully wipe them clean and massaged them, and said, “Two children are enough. That’s right, tomorrow I’ll bring you for a physical examination to see whether this kid is a boy or a girl, so we can prepare the articles the baby will need after birth.”

Xi Wei nodded. “Okay.”

Klaire continued massaging him, and after he’d rubbed for a while, he looked up to find that Xi Wei had actually fallen asleep.

He was deeply asleep, and his jet-black bangs had fallen to cover his bright, clean forehead. The swift and decisive eldest prince, who usually glowed with health and vigor, had a rare gentleness come over his looks while he was sleeping in his pregnancy. Klaire smiled slightly, got up and kissed his forehead, then took him up in a princess carry and brought him deftly back to the bedroom.

The man in his arms was a little heavy. That was the weight of two people, Xi Wei and their child, added together. Klaire held his beloved and the second child in his belly, and though he was tired, he felt content.

Early the next morning, Klaire brought Xi Wei to the Central Hospital for an examination.

They could already see the child’s gender. What’s more, in today’s era, the doctor didn’t have to keep it a secret when they saw the child’s gender. People had a high quality of life, and it wasn’t a problem to raise a few more children. The empire encouraged having children as well, so no matter what gender the child was, the parents would accept it. It wasn’t like the time before, where they valued males over females, to the point where if some people found out it was a girl, they’d have an abortion.

Xi Wei hoped it would be a girl this time.

That stupid boy Dylan was too mischevious and troublemaking, and Xi Wei had worried himself to pieces over him ever since he was small. It’d be great if it was a girl. He could give her beautiful dresses to wear, comb her hair into pretty braids and buy her the cutest toys, pampering her like a princess until she grew up.

If he had another little devil like Dylan, he didn’t know what he’d do.

Maybe Xi Wei’s prayer had an effect, because after the doctor used the 4D color ultrasound machine to examine him, he took a video of the child inside, smiled and explained, “Looking at the baby’s development, it should be a girl.”

Xi Wei was very happy. He took Klaire’s hand and said, “That’s great, we have a daughter!”

Klaire was excited as well. That brat Dylan really had tormented the two of them until they were mentally and physically exhausted. They were very pleased to have a cute and obedient girl. Just thinking of how their daughter would be as beautiful and stylish as a goddess in the future, they were proud to be parents.

After they returned home, Xi Wei prepared a beautiful bedchamber for his daughter. He painted the walls pink, and switched out the curtains and bed for ones in a pale blue hue. He bought lots of different kinds of rag dolls, a huge wardrobe that took up one wall, so that he could buy his daughter beautiful clothes, and a luxurious dressing table, where his daughter could put different kinds of cosmetics…

In short, Xi Wei and Klaire’s daughter definitely had to be as beautiful as a goddess when she went out in the future.

After they got their child’s room ready, the next matter of importance was thinking of a name. A girl’s name couldn’t be too coarse or too common. Xi Wei searched for a long time, and finally decided to have his daughter be named—Meng Xi.

Dreams and hopes, what an encouraging name!

As soon as you heard it, it sounded like a goddess alphas would kneel down and worship.

The day of the birth finally arrived. Xi Wei was sent into the operation room, while Klaire waited anxiously in the hall outside.

The process of birth was very smooth this time. Before ten minutes had passed, a loud, clear cry came from within the operation room. The nurse carried out the second child Xi Wei had given birth to. Since Trand and Anna were traveling in other parts of the country, Caesar, who’d already taken the throne, rushed to the hospital in person and brought an expert in genetic evaluation to test the child’s genes.

The expert soon came out with the report. The aged professor with a head of white hair said seriously, “Your Majesty, it’s an alpha.”

Klaire: “...”

Caesar: “...”

The old expert said with a serious expression, “The birth rate for female alphas is even lower than the one for male omegas.”

Klaire held his aching head.

What about the cute, soft, pretty daughter they’d agreed on?

How did he end up giving birth to a female A? This was a completely natural, additive-free macho woman!

After their daughter grew up, she’d have to marry a daughter-in-law to bring back. Could things still turn out fine like this?

Not knowing whether to laugh or cry, Klaire carried their daughter, who was crying loudly, to see Xi Wei. Xi Wei took his daughter with a face full of love, smiled and kissed her forehead, saying, “My daughter’s so cute, she’ll definitely grow up to be a beauty.”

Klaire sighed and said helplessly, “Xi Wei, I have to tell you something…you should prepare yourself, because our daughter might marry a wife earlier than her older brother in the future…”

Xi Wei: “...What?”

Klaire said mournfully, “They said that our daughter’s genes are a female A’s, with a rate of probability even lower than that of a male omega.”

Xi Wei felt like the whole room was swaying.

Could he still use that pink wallpaper, those pale blue curtains and all the rag dolls?

His daughter was a macho woman, a macho woman who could take a wife, in the mold of a proper man…

“I’ll...sleep for a bit first.” Xi Wei felt really tired, and he needed a rest. He’d better give his daughter to her father to raise.

When they brought their daughter back home, Dylan, who had just come back for break, was very excited about the new member of the family. He brought all the toys he’d played with as a child and gave them to his little sister, and sang off-key lullabies by her crib every day.

This scene of his mischievous son clumsily soothing their newborn daughter was quite strange, but also very heartwarming.

Klaire and Xi Wei looked at each other, and simultaneously started to laugh.

The two went to the balcony, hand in hand, and sat down facing each other. Xi Wei sighed softly and said, “One son and one daughter, and they’re both alphas. Actually, this is pretty good, at least they won’t get bullied after they grow up.”

Klaire smiled and said, “Dylan’s been naughty since he was small, it’ll be good enough if he doesn’t bully anyone else. As for what little Meng Xi, a female A, will grow up to be like—at the moment, we still don’t know.”

Xi Wei waved his hand and said, “Don’t worry, as long as her personality takes after mine, lots of soft, cute girls will like a handsome female A.”

As the two parents were discussing their children’s future, inside the bedroom, Dylan had sung his little sister to sleep. Perfectly content, he said, “Be good, little sister. After you grow up, your big brother will protect you.”

As it turned out, Meng Xi’s personality really did take after Xi Wei’s. She was strong and independent from an early age.

After falling down, most children would cry from the pain. Not her. Whenever she fell down, she’d climb back up, dust off her knees and keep on running. She didn’t like even one of the rag dolls in her bed room, but had a great interest in different types of mecha parts.

Not only was this kid smart, she was also very understanding.

Once, Xi Wei came home after working late, and she actually poured him a warm foot bath on her own, heated up a midnight snack and brought it to him, and said earnestly, “It’s been hard on you, Daddy. I have to hurry and grow up so I can protect you.”

She touched Xi Wei deeply. The next day, he taught her a set of basic fighting techniques. The little girl learned pretty quickly, and went through the moves with seriousness. She’d completely inherited Xi Wei’s skill.

Teaching a girl how to do so much punching and kicking didn’t seem too proper, but considering that she was a rare female alpha, and had to marry a wife in the future, Xi Wei decided to let her learn a little more fighting. She might fall in love with a delicate girl, so this way, she could fight to protect her.

—In this world, it wasn’t even uncommon to see men getting together with men. Letting his own daughter bring a little beauty back home seemed pretty good too.

Xi Wei had already thought it through.

When she was five years old, Meng Xi took first place at the year-end exam at St. Paul Academy. Xi Wei rewarded her with a C-class mecha he’d made himself. Dylan seemed discontent, but Xi Wei stopped him with one sentence: “If you have the skill, get first place too.”

Wronged, Dylan ran to complain to Klaire. “Since my little sister was born, Daddy hasn't loved me anymore. Daddy’s biased.”

Klaire rubbed his head. “Alright, I’ll give you a mecha too.”

Dylan immediately beamed and hugged Klaire’s thigh. “Father, you’re great!”

The two children soon grew up, but their personalities were poles apart. Dylan, the big brother, grew more handsome the older he got. This fellow had a silver tongue, and really knew how to coax people until they were happy. His skill for saying sweet words was completely inherited from Klaire. His little sister Meng Xi was calm and firm, and the way she spoke and acted was direct and efficient. She was inclined to Xi Wei’s teachings.

No matter what the two children grew up to be like, they were both their flesh and blood, and Klaire and Xi Wei loved both of them.

Every time he saw the siblings trading off blows in the yard, practicing martial arts, Xi Wei couldn’t resist smiling.

The way Dylan moved was smooth, evasive and full of technique, just like Klaire’s style. Meng Xi was more simple and straightforward, aiming for the vital points, the way Xi Wei had taught her. The brother and sister were usually evenly matched when it came to winning and losing, but Xi Wei could tell that Dylan, that brat, was quietly letting his sister win. His sister was younger than him by five years, after all, and he felt bad about taking advantage of her size to beat her.

This fellow’s grades weren’t that great, but his character wasn’t bad. At least he treated his family members sincerely, and he had pretty good relationships with some buddies at school. As long as he didn’t stray off the straight and narrow, Xi Wei didn’t have much to worry about.

As for his daughter, he was even more at ease about her. It was hard to find such a dashing schoolgirl. Xi Wei decided that from now on, when he was filming movies where a female general was the main character, he’d have his daughter make a guest appearance.

The days passed by tranquilly in this way. Once, when Xi Wei was reading on the open balcony, a gust of wind blew in. Seeing this, his daughter Meng Xi took the initiative to bring over a thin blanket and gently cover him, saying, “Dad, don’t catch a cold.”

Not far away, Klaire was playing chess with their eldest son Dylan. Dylan lost, and started being shameless again: “Father, let me go back a step, just one step. I wasn’t careful and took the wrong step just now, it’s really just because I was being careless!”

Klaire said with a smile, “It’s not good to get into the habit of going back. If you lose, then you lose. You have to lose first in order to win.”

Dylan scratched his head thoughtfully. “Oh, then let’s start over.”

A breeze blew by outside the window, the air carrying the fragrance of fresh flowers.

Xi Wei looked at Klaire, who was becoming more and more mature and steady, and at his son and daughter, who were gradually growing up, and he couldn’t help the corners of his mouth tugging upwards into a faint smile.

Being together with his husband and children was the peace and happiness he had hoped for.

This was what they called a quiet life, the years passing steadily and smoothly.
