Entering a Split Personality — Chapter 93

Fan Shen disliked going out, and he especially loathed going to bustling cities.

And as luck would have it, Xiao He’s home was in the old city district, the place that could be called the noisiest and busiest.

Fan Shen’s expression was ugly when he came out of the base, and it grew worse and worse.

Xiao He had woken him up, but there wasn’t a moment when he didn’t think of continuing to sleep.

But since he’d woken up, he couldn’t ignore the base’s matters.

As the leader of the superhuman headquarters, he couldn’t give up on his kind.

And the present situation hadn’t been optimistic. After several powerful conflicts, the base had suffered serious damage. Fortunately, after Fan Shen woke up, his decisions were quick, accurate and resolute. He turned the tide and allowed them to get through the crisis safely.

In a flash, around six months had passed.

Fan Shen had recuperated in the base, but he still felt irritable.

If a single person’s heart was beating, he had to listen to it attentively.

He couldn’t stop or rest, as if a talkative person was chattering away in his ear. This was really an ability that could drive people crazy.

He’d slept for half a year, but in the last six months, Fan Shen had almost never slept deeply.

His nerves were stretched taut and his mind was tense. He wanted to relax, but couldn’t find a way to.

He felt grateful to Xiao He at heart. After all, he’d saved his life.

But at the same time, he was a little resentful. Why did he have to save him?

Xiao He knew his situation, so why didn’t he let him sleep without waking?

Fan Shen looked down on himself for trying to escape, but he couldn’t help it.

There would always be a day when the last string in his wildly working mind would snap.

And now that he’d come out of the base and gone to the city center, he might be experiencing the first signs of collapse.

But he’d already come, so he had to at least see him.

His expression had been bad all the way there, but Fan Shen managed to endure until he reached the door of Xiao He’s home.

With a hangover, Xiao He’s head ached terribly.

He enjoyed himself while drinking, and the giddiness was great; he really did throw all his worries to the back of his mind. But the emptiness once he woke was hard to take.

Reality was so depressing and his head hurt so much that it added a few degrees of agony to that heart-piercing, bone-gnawing bitterness.

This doubled torment only made Xiao He feel that...the gains didn’t make up for the losses!

After feeling dizzy all day, Xiao He never expected that when he opened the door in the afternoon, it wouldn't be his parents who greeted him, but someone he’d thought he’d never see again in his life.

At this moment, Xiao He stiffened until he seemed like a statue. He thought he was dreaming, but right after that, he panicked.

This wasn’t a dream, but reality.

But...he shouldn’t see Fan Shen!

He couldn’t see him!

No, no, no...he couldn’t think like this, if he thought like this Fan Shen would hear it and misunderstand.

But he’d hear this as well…

He...he…

Xiao He’s mind was in chaos. His complicated feelings were like threads tangled together, and he couldn’t find the main thread at all.

He tried his best to make his thoughts simpler and not think too much, but he couldn’t control himself. Intense negative emotions surged up violently, only making Xiao He more pessimistic, despairing and overwhelmed.

Just at that moment, his father’s voice sounded. “This is?”

He’d just returned, and seeing a guest stopped at the door, he was a little surprised.

Xiao Rong saw her boss and quickly introduced him on her own. “Dad, this is my boss. He came over to have a look, it’s nothing big.”

Once Mr. Xiao heard that this was his daughter’s boss, he immediately grew nervous, and hurriedly greeted Fan Shen.

But Fan Shen was stunned motionless.

He just looked at Xiao He, looked at him without even blinking.

Xiao Rong had worked for Fan Shen for four or five years, but she’d never seen this man who was as steady as a mountain forget himself like this.

This was a feeling that was hard for Fan Shen to describe. There was an ecstasy he did his best to suppress, an impulse he desperately fought down, and even terror, fear and an intense feeling of unreality that froze this handsome man into a statue.

Mr. Xiao wanted to say something, but Xiao Rong was sharp enough to sense that something wasn’t right, and hurriedly pulled her parents out the door.

Her parents still didn’t understand why.

Xiao Rong simply threw them a heavy bomb. “Mom, Dad, make sure you’re mentally prepared.”

Her parents blinked, completely at a loss.

“Your son, my brother, is gay. He and my boss fell deeply in love with each other, and they’ve been in love for two years. Afterwards, because he was afraid you’d be sad and wouldn’t accept them, they separated. But you’ve seen how he’s lived a life no better than death for the last six months. I couldn’t watch on anymore, so I brought the two of them together… Mom, Dad, I trust that you aren’t that inflexible. Homosexuality isn’t popularly accepted, but we can’t just watch Xiao He die.”

It was the last sentence that made her parents, whose faces were filled with shock, come back to themselves.

Her mother really felt bad for her son and daughter to her bones. “That boy, say, your brother, oh! How big of a deal is this! Your father and I aren’t that dumb, why did he need to force himself to…” Once she thought of how her son had spent the last six months, her eyes brimmed with tears.

Xiao Rong felt bad for her mother, and hurriedly hugged her, saying comfortingly, “Mom, it’s alright, everything’s alright.”

Her father sighed deeply, but didn’t say anything in opposition.

They only had this one son. Did they not want to hold their grandchildren? They wanted to, they wanted to very much.

But if they no longer even had their son, what use would holding their grandchildren be?

Xiao Rong brought her parents away.

But the two men in the house were in a deadlock from start to finish, motionless.

Xiao He finally reacted. He lowered his head, his heart filled with embarrassment and nervousness. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but soon felt that there was no use in saying anything, since Fan Shen knew it all anyway.

Would he dislike him?

Would he think he was annoying?

Would he...would he...look down on him?

All sorts of terrible emotions rushed up. Xiao He really wanted to turn around and escape.

He’d missed him night and day for the last six months, but once he really saw this man, Xiao He was so afraid he didn’t know what to do.

They remained silent like this, and just when Xiao He thought he didn’t need to say anything else, Fan Shen spoke.

He looked steadily at Xiao He, his azure eyes filled with dazzling radiance that was like the joy of rebirth.

His voice was low, and though he tried his best to suppress it, it still overflowed with excitement.

“So quiet.”

These two simple words made Xiao He look up at him, perplexed.

Fan Shen gazed into his eyes, his voice so tender it was a mess. “Xiao He, I’ve never experienced a quiet like this before in my life.”

Xiao He was startled, but at the next moment, he abruptly realized what he meant.

“You...you can’t hear me? You can’t hear my thoughts?”

The corners of Fan Shen’s mouth raised slightly. The smile that showed was slight, but very carefree. “Not just yours, Xiao He. I can’t hear anyone’s thoughts at all.”

Xiao He’s eyes slowly widened, full of disbelief.

What...what exactly was going on?
